Chemical Engineering for Non-Chemical Engineers

October  06 - 07, 2014    Calgary, AB
This course is available In-Class as well as via Webinar.

Chemical Engineering is a branch of engineering that is involved in design, operation and management of different plants and factories such as petroleum, petrochemicals, food and drink industry, pharmaceutical factories, and oil and gas. The most common aspect between these processes is the chemical reactions and chemical unit operations. As result of the wide variety of chemical processes, chemical engineers must know all the concepts related to chemical engineering such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, and reaction engineering. Without these fundamentals, chemical engineers may not be able to understand the operation of process units and succeed in the proper design of chemical processes.

Nowadays however, non-engineers are increasingly expected to work with chemical engineers on projects, scale-ups and process evaluations. But to do so, they need a solid understanding of the basic concepts of chemical engineering analysis, design and calculations. This short course was design to give non-engineers the fundamentals of chemical engineering that they need in order to understand, communicate and work with chemical engineers.

Objective
This two-day course is designed to provide non-engineers with an overview of the most key aspects of chemical engineering as well as its applications. The course explains the basic parts of chemical engineering and most unit operation involved in chemical engineering in a simple way. The sessions will focus on relevant and practical issues, and will include a combination of classroom exercises and basic engineering problems.

Target Audience
All those working in the chemical, petrochemical, oil and process industries with a need to understand and discuss fundamental chemical engineering and technology issues with a chemical engineering specialist or other professional.
