Federal government to create new business centres for women

By Michelle Collins |

OTTAWA - Following the recent report from the Task Force on Women Entrepreneurs, the federal government has announced plans to create new business centres in Ontario and Quebec. These centers will be intended as a place where women entrepreneurs can come to find information on starting, running, and growing their own business.

Currently, the plan is to offer mentoring and networking service along with information on financing and other services. The government plans to seek advice from local women's associations and business service providers to address other needs.

Similar programs are already offered in other parts of the country. In the western provinces women are encouraged to use the Western Economic Diversification's Women's Enterprise Initiative. The Maritimes offers its program through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
