Looking for Talented Young Entrepreneurs

By Julie King |

The Business Development Bank is looking for Canada's hottest young entrepreneurs for its 2004 Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA) competition. Interested young entrepreneurs have until May 28, 2004 to apply.

There are thirteen awards in total, with one for each province and territory. Two special awards will also be presented this year along with an ongoing achievement award that is open to former YEA winners.

While the main benefit of the provincial and territorial awards is publicity and access to consulting, there is a $15,000 grant for each of the two special achievement awards and a $20,000 grant for the ongoing achievement award.

Selection Criteria
Nominations are open to Canadian entrepreneurs meeting the following selection criteria:

  • must be between the ages of 19 and 35
  • must have been in business for at least two years

A panel of business people, entrepreneurs, members of Chambers of Commerce and BDC representatives will evaluate companies and select the final winners. Their selection will be based on the company's success and growth potential, innovation, participation in new economy activities and community involvement.

How to Appy
Entrepreneurs can apply online by logging on to the BDC's website. Alternatively, application forms can be picked up at any BDC branch, or obtained by calling the BDC's toll free line, 1 888 INFO-BDC (1 888 463-6232).

The deadline for applications is May 28, 2004.
