By Mario Cywinski |

Want to be able to increase the value of your small to medium sized business (SMB), guaranteed?

A company out of Vancouver, British Columbia has announced that their guided program can double the value of SMB's in less than three years.

In turn, the program is also able to decrease the dependence of the business on the owner, by a claimed 50 per cent, according to Wardell Professional Development.

The company is releasing a new diagnostic tool named the Wardell Goodwill Diagnostic, to help businesses value their operations. The tool can provide information about any areas of the business which are weak, and need improvement.

"Most business owners have a difficult time assessing what it is that actually makes their business valuable. Therefore, they don't have the perspective they need to set about increasing their market value," said Mark Wardell, president and founder of Wardell Professional Development. "This becomes extremely significant in our current era of strategic planning and succession planning."

The tool is meant to help business locate what their salable assets are and be able to increase their value within the promised two to three years.

It is interesting to note that according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, 2006, an estimated two-thirds of all business owners will exit their businesses in the next 10 years. This means that they will most likely want to see the value of their business grow.

According to Wardell Professional Development, the diagnostic is and will be able to do the following:

  • A complete business valuation, conducted by a qualified an accountant/business valuator;
  • Its goal is to help transform a business from an owner-reliant organization into a genuine investment;
  • It will show business owners how to begin the process of transferring personal goodwill into business goodwill;
  • It will demonstrates a businesses' level of goodwill in relationship to the amount of its discretionary earnings and the length of time those earnings are likely to continue once the business has changed hands.
