MB: Minimum wage increases to $9/hr on Oct. 1

MB -- On October 1, 2009 minimum wage in the province will increase by $0.25 to $9 an hour.

The minimum wage rate has increased incrementally over the last decade from a rate of $6 an hour in 1999. The current increase is the second this year, as the rate has already increased to $8.75 an hour on May 1, 2009.

The latest increase positions Manitoba near the middle among Canadian jurisdictions. Nunavut currently has the highest minimum wage rates in the country, at $10 an hour, followed by Ontario at $9.50 an hour. British Columbia has lowest rate of $8 an hour.
