OTTAWA - The federal government has signed a $60 million partnership deal with Mitel Networks Corporation and March Networks Corporation. Their goal with this investment to create affordable, accessible and practical broadband applications to benefit Canadians.

Industry Canada reports that the money will be used to begin an aggressive research and development program. This latest partnership is part of a $240 million initiative known, as Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC).

Terry Matthews, Chairman of both Mitel Networks and March Networks, noted that "the opportunity presented by broadband is immense in terms of both how this core technology can enhance the way Canadians work and live, and in our ability as a nation to build communications tools that are highly exportable and widely adopted."

The companies were chosen for their proven experience and track record in research and development, as well as financial stability. This latest partnership is expected to create jobs and boost the economy of the Ottawa region.
