Feds ask for input from women entrepreneurs

OAKVILLE - The federal government is calling on women entrepreneurs to talk about their unique challenges and what can be done to address them. The initiative, known as the Task Force on Women Entrepreneurs, will kick off with a countrywide tour.

The "I Think I Can" tour will start in January at the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) in Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax. Donna Messer, Managing Editor of Business Women Canada Magazine will lead the tour. A selection of stories will be published in her magazine.

Key issues that the task force wants to address include:

  • identifying factors that encourage women’s entrepreneurship
  • examining current resources from public and private sources
  • identifying gaps and issues that need action
  • looking at best international practices and how they can apply to Canada
  • how current government programs can best fit their needs
  • increased collaboration with government, private, and voluntary sector partners

Women entrepreneurs can also participate in the task force by visiting Messer’s online forum at www.connectuscanada.com.
