PEI St@rt Up Challenge looking for IT and New Media ...

CHARLOTTETOWN - The St@rt Up Challenge business plan competition is gearing up for it’s third annual outing. All residents looking to start a business in the IT and New Media sectors are eligible.

Candidates will be divided into two categories Student/New or Existing Businesses. You will be required to submit a summary of your business idea, which will be reviewed by a panel of judges. Selected finalists will be matched with industry experts who will assist them with developing a detailed business plan and preparing for a final presentation to the judging panel.

Winners in each category will receive six months of access to the Technology PEI Inc. Incubator Program at the Atlantic Technology Centre. Local business and education communities will also donate additional prizes in the form of cash and computer equipment.

"The format of the event helps bring your business idea into focus, especially when presenting to a panel of judges, you have to look at all the angles," said last year’s winner Justin Macleod. "The feedback, publicity and exposure with the program is also a benefit." Macleod is the co-owner of Timeless Technologies. The company is in the final stages of launching the web based conference-calling system that was developed for the competition. This winning idea can be found at www.sedule.com.

The application deadline for St@rt Up Challenge is March 28. Winners will be announced during IT Week in May. For more information go to www.techpei.com.
