How to apply to get an HST number in BC and what are the costs?

By John R Mott |

R Butler asked:

How do I go about applying for an HST number in B.C., and what would be the cost?

John R Mott answered:

The HST is administered by the federal government. You may register by internet, telephone, mail or fax. Details are available on the CRA website here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/gst-tps/rgstrng/hwt-eng.html.

Effective April 1, 2013, the HST will be replaced by the federal GST and the new BC provincial sales tax (PST).

Your federal HST registration will continue to be valid for the GST after that date.

Depending on the nature of your business, you may have to register for the BC PST.

Details are available here: http://www.hstinbc.ca/.
