Most web browsers - the software you use to surf the web such as Internet Explorer and Netscape - come with a preset homepage. This is the page that first loads when you connect online, and it is the page that you go to when you click on the HOME button on your brower's toolbar.
For the browser makers - or ISPs - having the power to predefine your homepage gives them an opportunity to promote their products and services. But it doesn't mean that this is the best homepage for you!
Not to worry - changing the homepage to one of your choosing is a simple task. To change your default homepage, you will need to:
- Select the new homepage. Consider using your favourite search engine, or a favourite site that you regularily visit.
- Note the URL of the page that you plan to use as your homepage. This can be any page, although pages that are password protected are not recommended.
- Select the web browser that you are using from the list below, and follow the instructions for that browser. If you don't know what browser you are using, click on Help: About _your browser_ on your browser's main menu to identify the version and full name of your current browser.
