Adding Shortcuts to the Taskbar (part 2)

Last month we looked at how you could quickly open programs by creating a custom folder on your Start menu. This month we'll look at how you can add these shortcuts to the Taskbar.

The Taskbar is built into the desktop, and can be located along any side of your computer screen. On my computer this bar is located at the bottom of the screen.

On most computers the Taskbar is always visible, but it is possible to set the bar to 'Auto Hide'. This is done by clicking on the Start menu button, selecting Settings>Taskbar & Start Menu.. and selecting the appropriate checkbox on the Taskbar Options tab.

The first step in moving shortcuts to your Taskbar involves creating a shortcut and storing your shortcuts in a folder and is covered in Tech Tip 17. If you are not sure how to do this, please review the steps outlined in that tip.

Once you have your shortcuts ready, it is easy to add them to your Taskbar.

With the shortcuts ready, you now need to click on the shortcut that you want to add, and drag it to the appropriate area of the Taskbar.

Now release your mouse button while the shortcut is in position on the Taskbar. (You should see a black line appear on the Taskbar.)

The shortcut should now be in place on the taskbar; simply click on it to open the program.
