From the front page the site splits into Canadian and American stores. On the Canadian entry page the company's Unique Selling Proposition (USP) comes across loud and clear: "... $5 shipping for any product anywhere in Canada, why shop anywhere else?".
The business strengths of the site don't stop there. The front page features products on sale, has links to Ask the Expert, request a product, help desk, a newsletter, and features a contest currently running where users can win "cool affiliate products".
On the products pages, users can read product reviews and comments from other users, or they can post a comment or question themselves. And the buying process is extremely simple: users simply click on the Add to Cart button, and from there they have the choice to update the contents of their 'shopping basket', to continue shopping, or to proceed to checkout.
Visiting the Canadian version of MegaDepot with cookies turned off (cookies are small chunks of data that are often used to help sites track visitors) was not a problem, but I could not get into the US version unless I adjusted my browser settings and accepted cookies. Also, the 'Click and Verify VeriSign Authentic Site' button was not clickable, which initially raised some concerns. However, after doing some digging we were able to reassure ourselves that the site did indeed have a VeriSign Authentic Site certificate.
Overall, this is a nice site that intends to do some serious business.
