Taxed in Nova Scotia

Expert: Michael Maddalena

Barbara asked:

We are in the tranport business. My question is does a provincial tax exempt clause exist to recover provincial tax paid in other provinces?

Our home province is Nova Scotia.

Michael Maddalena answered:

The Nova Scotia Department of Finance advises that generally goods purchased in another province requires provincial taxes to be paid in that province. Of course, if the purchase is made in a province charging Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), an HST registrant from Nova Scotia will have input tax credits on account of such purchases.

We not aware of any province offering a provincial sales tax rebate with the exception of Ontario.
