Does an employee earn vacation pay when taking a paid leave?

By Representative, Employment Standards Branch |

Kellie asked:

Someone is off on a paid leave (by WSIB) for surgery, Should they accrue vacation monies as if they were working? This is in Ontario.

Representative, Employment Standards Branch answered:

He explained that vacation pay is payable on wages, so the employee would not accrue vacation pay in the situation you described.
