Code of Ethics to be established for Canadian Bookkeepers

By Michelle Collins |

BRITISH COLUMBIA - The Canadian Bookkeepers Association (CBA) is planning to establish a Code of Ethics and accountable membership process in an attempt to ensure that small business owners have access to qualified bookkeepers. Applicants will have to go through a screening process that tests their accounting skills.

Business owners can then contact the CBA for a free referral to a qualified bookkeeper in their area.

Statistics Canada estimates that 34 per cent of the 22,000 accounting businesses operating in the country or working on a freelance basis. Without established guidelines for education or professional conduct these freelancers may not be qualified to deal with business finances, says the CBA.
