Fuel tax rebates for farmers now online
Since January 1, 2001, farmers have been able to buy their farm fuel and propane tax free from bulk suppliers. Fuel bought at retail outlets is still taxable with a rebate application to be filled out at the end of the year. It is estimated that farmers are saving a combined total of $45 million through these fuel rebates.
"The program was set up last June to cut red tape for Saskatchewan businesses," Finance Minister Eric Cline said. "Now, this tax filing service is also available to farmers as a fast and paper-free way of applying for their rebate on farm fuel purchases made at retail outlets."
To file for the rebate online each farmer will be given their own access code, which will be located on the front of the application forms. When this code is entered into the SETS program the fuel rebate is automatically calculated and a summarized report is made. Payment history can also be reviewed through this program.
The SETS program can be used also be used for Provincial Sales Tax, Liquor Consumption Tax, Tobacco Tax, Fuel Tax, Beverage Container Program, Corporation Capital Tax installment payments, and Insurance Premiums Tax.
