Not working the day after a stat holiday

Expert: Howard Levitt

Kim asked:

I am looking to take the day after a stat holiday off, without pay; however, I am scheduling it in advance. Do I still get paid for the stat holiday even though I am not at work on the Tuesday following the holiday?

Howard Levitt answered:

In most provinces of Canada, not working on the day following a stat holiday would disentitle you to the stat holiday pay. So you do not get paid for the holiday pay.
