Getting a Provincial Sales Tax Exempt Number

Expert: Ontario Ministry of Finance

Cindy asked:

I want to start my own computer company. I need to know where to go to get my PST Exempt #. Is there a website or do you pick a package up somewhere?

Ontario Ministry of Finance answered:

"To get a Provincial Sales Tax exempt number, phone your local Retail Sales Tax Office [also called the Regional tax offices]. Everything is done through them."

CO addendum:
You can also download Retail Sales Tax Guide 204 online at: http://www.rev.gov.on.ca/images/rsie_guide204.pdf
This guide, Purchase Exemption Certificates, provides both background information and the forms you will need.
