Finding Info .. Fast!

When searching for information online many people go to a search engine, type in a phrase, which then brings up millions of resulting webpages. An exercise that is frustrating, and often useless.

When the user finally gets a page that seems relevant, a click to the corresponding site often presents a page of text. Lots of text. At this point, finding the phrase, topic, or name that is being searched for can seem like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Fortunately, there is a shortcut that can help; the "FIND" option.

Most browsers include a "find" option, which is located under the EDIT menu on the upper toolbar. "Find" enables users to quickly search for a phrase or word in a page of text. Not only the browsers include "Find"; many other programs, such as word processors, spreadsheets, and databases, also include this option.

Using the "find" feature is simple. In your browser, click on the "edit" menu, and scroll down to find – or find in page, or a similar variation. Select this option.

You will now be presented with a pop-up box, and are ready to search for a specific word, phrase, or name of interest. For example, if you did a search for "Business Name Inc.", type the name into the "find what:" box, without quote. Then click on the "Find Next" button. If the name is in the page, this should bring you to the first instance of the name.

When searching, be aware that if the entire page has not fully loaded, you may not be able to find a matching name or phrase right away. Most browser will tell you how much of the page has loaded, with information on the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

That's it! You should now be on the fast track to finding specific keywords and phrases in webpages.
