Startups: Building a Solid Legal Foundation

July  17, 2019    Vancouver, BC
For early startups, there are a lot of things that can go wrong before they go right. Having a good understanding of certain legal basics will help you navigate common legal pitfalls and position your business for success. Legal questions and issues that most startups and entrepreneurs routinely encounter: - Have I selected the correct business structure for my company? How am I exposed legally if it's set up incorrectly? - What types of legal documents are needed to properly form my startup? Should I use online legal templates? - Do I need a shareholders' agreement? What issues are important to consider in a shareholders' agreement? - How do I protect my intellectual property rights? Should I be registering a trademark for my company name, logo or product/service name before incorporating? - Is registering a corporate name the same as registering a trademark? - Do I need to work with a business lawyer? We answer these questions and discuss other legal issues you may have in mind. But you can only ask them if you attend! Perpinder Patrola is the principal of Patrola Law and has been practicing business law for over 10 years. He's helped launch many new businesses in Greater Vancouver and extremely passionate about helping local innovators turn their ideas into real businesses.
