My name is Elysia Bronson and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and I work with individuals in a variety of mental health areas. My primary specialization focuses on trauma and chronic illness.
My main area of specialization is using an integrated therapy approach that combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy a gold standard mental health approach with a subgroup of CBT, called Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. I use this combined approach as it meets the needs of a larger amount of clients and shows greater results. Specifically, I work with individuals surrounding a vast spectrum of trauma, including medical, psychological, personal, and/or interpersonal factors that impact the client. I adopt a collaborative and culturally-infused approach to counselling, and I strive to provide safe spaces for individuals. I believe in the co-creation of space where my clients can express, explore, and engage in conversations about trauma, depression and mental health, free from moral judgment.
My work has included clinical practice, college campuses, and high schools. I have taught Dialectical Behavioural Therapy for online therapy groups and revised the modules for chronic illness specifically. I completed my Master's in Counselling Psychology in 2022 through the Yorkville University (BCACC and CPA-Accredited). As part of my undergraduate program, I completed a Internship with the Victim Services Unit of the Abbotsford Police Department.
What makes The Woods Counselling special, is that our counsellor understands chronic illness first-hand. This provides our counselling sessions with an added depth of experience, which helps Chronic Illness clients feel heard, respected, and understood. As well as being a registered clinical counsellor she is qualified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which helps teach management skills to those diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, or post covid fatigue. Through working one-on-one, we create energy and pain management plans while attending to mental health needs. Equipping clients to readjust to life after diagnosis.
An ideal client is teens and adults that want to work through mental health problems. We provide online, in-person, and drop-in appointments, and we just really want to help where we can and when we can.
