Marion Oberg Riise

Marion has been writing since age 8, when she submitted her first story to The Western Producer weekly newspaper. Unfortunately it was also her first rejection, but it was good practice in accepting rejection gracefully, a skill which every freelance writer has to foster.

From age 8 to earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree With Distinction from the University of Alberta in -- you guessed it -- English Literature, Marion has always had "a way with words". Thus when she started her writing, editing and desktop publishing business part-time in 1995, A Way With Words seemed to be the logical choice for its name.

Along the way to operating her business full-time, Marion spent 17 years in public and municipal administration. It was a good grounding for her foray into self-employment as her writing, editing and layout skills were required on a daily basis. She wrote and edited a monthly community newsletter, developed plans and manuals of all kinds, designed brochures and ads, and prepared briefs and grant applications. Since 1999, when Marion left the municipal administration field, she has focused exclusively on A Way With Words.

Marion's lighthearted observations about life have been published in The Sons of Norway Viking and The United Church Observer magazines. She is marketing a children's book manuscript to North American publishers. She writes, edits and designs materials for a variety of public organizations, small businesses and individuals.

She lives with her husband, two sons and one bossy calico cat in Forestburg, Alberta, a small town in east central Alberta.
