Epson Workforce WF-100 Portable Printer Review - article image

Need a printer that works where you are?  Road warriors and business travellers, delight!  The Epson Workforce WF-100 is a compact, lightweight printer geared towards those on the go.

Weighing in slightly over 1.5 kg, the Epson Workforce fits easily into a laptop bag or on the front seat of your car.  With various print and connection options, this printer should be one to check out if you are in the market.

Printing Options

The Epson Workforce WF-100 is easy to setup using the USB cable, however it is not very fast.  What did work well was adding a wireless device.  Printing is enabled from your mobile device – great for printing that last minute document that you forgot at the office!  In addition to printing from a mobile device, there are also options for printing email.  Printing speed isn’t the greatest – about 2 pages a minute.  If you are printing images, the speed decreases significantly.  So be careful what you choose to print!  Paper capacity is great for a compact printer – about 25-30 sheets.

Battery Life

In this era of “always on”, this printer is no exception.  There is no “stand-by” option if there is a period of inactivity.  The printer turns itself off and doesn’t turn on automatically when you go to print your next document.

It will take about 2.5 hours to get this printer fully charged.  Duration of the battery depends on use.  We were able to print about 70 black and white pages and the battery light was still on.  According to Epson, the battery should last for 50 pages of colour or 100 pages black and white.

Connections

This printer had options  for both USB and WIFI direct connection.  Our only complaint was that the USB cable provided was too short and couldn’t be used without moving the PC next to the printer.  An option would be to buy a separate, longer USB for use with this printer.

Conclusion

This is a great little printer for those who travel for business or who are on the road a lot for sales calls.   It’s light and efficient with the ability to connect to your mobile device for ease of printing.  Depending on your tolerance level, you may find this printer a bit noisy.  But given the features, its portability, and its connectivity to your mobile device, this would be a great addition to the travelling office.
