Ask The Expert

As a sub-contractor, when you invoice for labour and material and show a discount for early payment of your invoice.

By Hank Bulmash |

Ann asked:

As a sub-contractor, when you invoice for labour and material and show a discount for early payment of your invoice. What figure is used to calculate HST and what figure is used to calculate WSIB?

Hank Bulmash answered:

HST is calculated on the full invoice amount -- there is no reduction for an early payment discount. The reason for this treatment is that in accounting the revenue is normally shown as the full amount and the early payment discount is reflected as an expense.
